How do I get to the Colosseum?

The Colosseum, the majestic symbol of Rome, stands imposingly in the heart of the Eternal City. Getting there is an experience in itself, a journey that will take you through the history and beauty of this ancient city.

If you are staying in the historic centre, the Colosseum is within easy walking distance. While walking through the charming cobbled streets, you can admire monuments and historic buildings, immersing yourself in the unique atmosphere of Rome.

By underground

The B line takes you directly to the Colosseum station, located just a short walk from the Flavian Amphitheatre. The metro is the best way to get to the Colosseum, especially if you are coming from the outskirts of the city.

By bus

You can get to the Colosseum by bus: Lines 51, 75, 85, 87, 117, 118, the night line NMB, or tram 3 will take you close to the amphitheatre.
Consult the ATAC website or Google Maps to find the best line for your itinerary.

By car

It is possible to reach the Colosseum by car, although we do not recommend it as the area is very busy. There are paid parking lots near the Colosseum which can be reached from Via Fori Imperiali or Via Celio Vibenna.

Yes, there are several paid car parks nearby, such as the Colosseum Parking and the Fori Imperiali Parking.

From the airport

  • From Fiumicino airport: the Leonardo Express train takes 32 minutes to Termini station, from where you can take the Metro B line to Colosseo (10 minutes). Alternatively, the Terravision shuttle bus will take you directly to Termini.
  • From Ciampino airport: the shuttle bus is the most convenient way to reach Termini station. Alternatively, you can take the FL4 train to Termini and then the Metro B line to Colosseo

The choice depends on several factors, such as where you are starting from, your budget and the time available. In general, the metro is the fastest and most efficient option. If you are staying in the city centre, you may want to consider walking to the Colosseum to enjoy the beauty of Rome.

The travel time varies according to the means of transport used. The metro takes about 10 minutes from Termini station.
